Cass is a street-smart street kid used to taking care of herself. With a guarded heart and a past she wants to keep secret. But when she’s partnered with Stefan, a sheltered young man thrown into the gritty reality of Biosynth’s high-stakes biotech training program, her defenses begin to crack.

Stefan always believed the world was fair—until money locked him out of medical school and debt forced him into Biosynth’s grip. Now, alongside Cass, he faces brutal training, moral compromises, and the harsh truth about the system he once trusted.

In the heart of the DFW megacity, Cass hunts for rare biotech components to repair a damaged neuromorphic computer tied to her stepfather’s cold case. Posing as a university student and masking her net avatar, she navigates the dangers of corporate surveillance and black-market tech. As she pieces together the truth, Cass balances stealth and resolve, walking a razor’s edge between exposure and discovery.

Deployed to Belize under the Texas Army, Stefan grapples with the horrors of war and a disturbing secret—he’s been implanted with experimental nanobots that heal and control his body without consent. As violence and corporate agendas collide, Stefan’s idealism crumbles, forcing him to confront the loss of his innocence and what it means to be human in a world ruled by machines.
